The Chicago Bears continue their offseason preparation as they get ready for the upcoming year. The nine-time NFL Champions are coming off an excellent 2025 NFL season.

For the first time since 2018, the Bears finished with more than 10 wins. Chicago had 11 victories and six losses in 2025 en route to winning the NFC North title. On top of that, they were also a top-six offensive team last season.

Chicago defeated its longtime rivals, the Green Bay Packers, in the Wildcard Round of the NFL playoffs. Unfortunately, they failed to beat the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round, bowing out of Super Bowl contention.

Chicago Bears rookie Malik Muhammad reiterates his goal this season

One of Chicago’s points of improvement from last season was its defense. During the 2026 NFL Draft, the Bears selected the Texas Longhorns cornerback Malik Muhammad with the 124th overall pick.

Muhammad spent three years with the Longhorns, earning second-team All-SEC honors in his final season at Texas. In three years, the Texas native had a total of 76 solo tackles, 21 assisted tackles and three interceptions.

Players need to fight for their spot in the starting lineup, as with any sport, especially as a late draft pick. For the Bears’ rookie, he reiterated that that’s his goal after being asked about becoming a starter.

During an interview, a reporter asked him whether his goal is to compete for a starting spot with the Bears. This prompted a visibly surprised reaction by Muhammad before answering the question.

“For sure, for sure. That’s the only mindset I have,” the rookie said.

The question generated negative reactions from Chicago fans. Supporters are not happy about the line of questioning, and the reporter is now drawing some backlash online.

“What kind of question is that lmao what do u want the guy to say ‘nah I’m competing for the practice squad’ cmon bro,” a comment on Instagram said.

“I mean I feel like every pros goal is to start ” a fan shared.

“The way he looked for another person right after, like ‘next question’ ” wrote a user.

“our reporters always suck,” a Bears supporter mentioned.

“Chicago media never disappoints when it comes to asking stupid questions,” a strong comment read.

“Ask the dumbest questions naw bro worked his whole life to be a backup,” another declared.

Fans, along with Muhammad, were confused about the nature of the question. Despite his initial reaction, the rookie gave a short but professional answer.

Supporters heaped praise on Muhammad for his answer, and they are excited to see the newcomer out on the field.
