The Chicago Bears wrapped up the 2025 NFL Draft by selecting Kyle Monangai, a running back from Rutgers in the 7th round. This follows their 6th-round selection of offensive guard Luke Newman.

Monangai was Dane Bruglers RB20 in the class. The fifth-year Senior is about to turn 23 years old. He recorded a Relative Athletic Score of 4.03, running a 4.60 forty-yard dash.

Over a five-year career at Rutgers, Monangai became one of the most decorated players in program history. He played in 52 games with 35 starts, rushing for 3,221 yards and 27 touchdowns, ranking second all-time in school history for rushing yards and setting the program record for most touches without a fumble. A two-time All-Big Ten selection, he earned First Team All-American honors and became the first Rutgers running back since Ray Rice to be named an All-American.

Known for his durability and production, he had 14 career 100-yard rushing games and recorded multiple 1,000-yard seasons, leading the Big Ten in rushing yards in 2023. He was also a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a two-time team captain. On top of all that, he never fumbled once in his college career.

In 2024, he rushed for 1,279 yards and 13 touchdowns, ranking among the top backs nationally in yards per game and scoring. Monangai won't blow you away with speed or athleticism, but he brings a determined running style, along with good patience, contact balance, and vision, to the Bears.

It will be interesting to see how he fits into the running back room with D'Andre Swift, Roschon Johnson, Travis Homer, and Ian Wheeler. I would expect him to vie for more consideration than most 7th-round picks might.
