A former NFL head coach who was on the wrong side of some key matchups against Peyton and Eli Manning is once again preparing for a run-in with a Manning.
Ohio State defensive coordinator Matt Patricia spent 14 seasons on the New England Patriots’ coaching staff while both Peyton and Eli Manning were in the NFL.
Patricia went 7-6 against Peyton and 2-3 against Eli during those 14 seasons (including the playoffs), which means he "broke even" against the Manning family.
Peyton and Eli, however, were 5-1 against Patricia in the playoffs.
In 2025, Patricia and the Buckeyes will open the season against the Texas Longhorns and Arch Manning, the nephew of Peyton and Eli.
Patricia was asked Monday about facing Arch later this month.
"Yeah, I'm worried about what his uncles are telling him right now is probably the biggest thing for me," said Patricia. "I got a chance to actually see Arch last summer. He's big, he's strong, he's really athletic. He's got a very live arm. He can push the ball down the field.
"He's a really good player. This is a huge challenge for us....I'm sure his uncles and his dad and his grandfather, they pretty much groomed him as a quarterback his entire life. He's a great kid."

Patricia’s reaction when he saw a Manning on the schedule was probably something like, “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
Patricia is only 50 years old, so he probably isn’t planning to retire from coaching anytime soon. That means he could run into another Manning in the next decade — Peyton’s son, Marshall.
