For the past four years, a member of the Florida Gulf Coast basketball team was on "The Road to 1 Point." Unfortunately, he got stopped in his tracks this year.
Brandon Dwyer, a 6-foot-3 senior at Florida Gulf Coast, has built an impressive following on social media during his NCAA career. He has 1.3 million followers on TikTok and nearly 500,000 followers on Instagram. Fans love that he's willing to make fun of his lack of production on the court.
Dwyer actually received limited minutes this season for the Eagles, but he only took two shots from late November to late February. Neither one of his attempts went in.
There was a slight chance Dwyer could receive playing time if Florida Gulf Coast made the NCAA Tournament, albeit he's not really part of the team's rotation. On Monday, however, the Eagles were eliminate from the Atlantic Sun Tournament. As a result, they won't be participating in March Madness.
Over the past 24 hours, college basketball fans have trolled Dwyer for going scoreless at the collegiate level.
"Imagine playing D1 basketball for four years and having the same amount of points as me," one person commented on Dwyer's latest Instagram post.
"Your season is over, I can't believe you never got that first point," another person wrote.
"Not scoring in your whole career is crazy work," a third person commented.
"FGCU just lost and got eliminated from March madness contention. The road to 1 point is over. Brandon Dwyer goes pointless," a TikTok user said.
At the end of the day, Dwyer has nothing to be ashamed about. Playing for a Division I basketball team is an accomplishment few get to achieve in life.
Prior to joining Florida Gulf Coast's team, Dwyer was a two-time DIAA State Champion at Sanford School in Hockessin, Delaware.
We're not sure what's next for Dwyer's career. All we know is he'll have plenty of people cheering him on.
