
It looks as if some college football coaches are showing support for a 24-team College Football Playoff format.
The playoff currently allows 12 teams to make the field. This number could rise in the future, with the American Football Coaches Association showing support for a maximum of 24 teams in the playoffs, according to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger. While the association has no control over the NCAA or College Football Playoff governance structure, notable coaches are a part of the association.
A 24-team College Football Playoff format has continued to gain traction. The Big Ten has gone as far as circulating an internal document that details what the format would look like, per ESPN.
Alabama football has made the playoff one time in the two years where the 12-team format has been in place. The Crimson Tide won their first playoff game in the 12-team playoff era against Oklahoma on the road, becoming the first road team to ever win a road playoff game on a college campus.
