The Washington Commanders have moved on from starting running back Brian Robinson Jr., trading him to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round draft pick.
The 6-1, 220-pounder rushed for career-highs in yards (799) and touchdowns (eight) in the Commanders' magical 2024 season that reached in the NFC Championship Game.

Robinson, 26, was entering the final year of his rookie contract in 2025, and was set to make just over $3 million this year.
The former third-round pick in 2022 from Alabama has totaled over 2,300 yards and 15 touchdowns in his three years in the nation's capital.
Robinson's eventual contract extension may have been looked at as a daunting future responsibility for a Washington team that will also have to pay breakout star quarterback Jayden Daniels, although that won't need to happen for another couple years.
The move now slides veteran ball-carrier Austin Ekeler up into the starting spot next to Daniels in the backfield. Jeremy McNichols, Chris Rodriguez Jr., and exciting rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt fill out the rest of the group.
Robinson joins a 49ers team headlined by star running back Christian McCaffrey, who is hoping to stay on the field after playing just four games last season.
The former Offensive Player of the Year is entering the season at full strength, but the addition of Robinson now serves as an insurance policy for the injury-prone starter. San Francisco found another depth piece by trading for receiver Skyy Moore this week to help out their banged-up receiving corps.
