FRISCO — Dez Bryant continues to support his former team since retiring from the NFL. Always quick to give his take on the happenings of the league, Bryant still backs his Dallas Cowboys.
This support outlasted an unfortunate end to his Cowboys tenure and shows in his praise of the No. 88 who proceeded him in CeeDee Lamb.
However, the Cowboys' struggles last season and their shortcomings of late have made the encouragement around the fan base something of a losing battle.
But Bryant and Cowboys Nation found a spark Wednesday morning when the Cowboys traded for George Pickens. The former Pittsburgh Steeler joins the team presumably as the No. 2 receiving complement to CeeDee Lamb and option for Dak Prescott.
Bryant has spent the morning hyperactive on X, responding to fans and sharing his thoughts. His take on the trade was perfectly clear, telling everyone his "energy is on 10 this morning."
Obviously, the splash move that Cowboys fans have begged for certainly stirs some excitement. But from a former No. 88, there is an enticing layer to this Pickens deal.
Dallas has its alpha receiver in Lamb though Pickens boasts a similar alpha mentality with his sharpened competitive edge, much like Bryant touted in his playing days.
From that perspective, the two are quite similar. Nonetheless, the Cowboys now boast a receiving duo better at least on paper than anything they have experienced in a long time.
And the Dallas offense?
Dez wrote, "That is some dangerous (bleep) right here.''
Bryant even added a comment about his regret not getting a partner like Lamb or Pickens throughout his career. That came with a not-so-slight dig at former Cowboys' head coach Jason Garrett.
I might be moving too fast but I love it…I wish it was like this whenever I was playing! We had the clapper with no nuts https://t.co/wMkSm9Yf0c

At the end of the day, the craze of this deal is short-lived and the Cowboys must make this relationship work on the field. After all, Pickens' edge has proven to be doubles-sided at times.
For now, it's a major boost for a franchise that needed some momentum heading into the summer.
