While the NBA Finals are currently commanding most of the spotlight, the 2025 NBA draft is quickly approaching, set to take place on June 25 in Brooklyn, New York.
This year’s draft lottery delivered a dramatic twist, as the Dallas Mavericks—despite making the play-in tournament and holding just a 1.8% chance—miraculously landed the No. 1 overall pick.
That surprise outcome has now put Dallas in prime position to select Duke phenom Cooper Flagg, widely considered the consensus No. 1 overall pick. A versatile two-way star, Flagg has the tools to impact every facet of the game and is viewed by many as a franchise-changing talent.
Now, just weeks away from draft night, the Mavericks have reportedly made a major move toward that possibility. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Dallas is set to bring in Flagg for a pre-draft visit—a strong indication that selecting him first overall is a near certainty.

Cooper Flagg has been widely projected as the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft class since before he even stepped on the court at Duke—and remarkably, he managed to exceed the sky-high expectations placed on him.
In his lone season with the Blue Devils, Flagg captured both the Wooden Award and the Naismith Player of the Year honors. He was also named ACC Player of the Year and ACC Freshman of the Year, leading Duke in points (19.2), rebounds (7.5), assists (4.2), steals (1.4), and blocks (1.4)—a rare and dominant all-around showing.
Although Duke fell short in the Final Four, Flagg’s transition from the college season to the NBA spotlight was swift. He was in attendance for the draft lottery and admitted he was surprised to see the Mavericks land the No. 1 overall pick.
Still, he acknowledged the excitement of potentially joining a roster that includes fellow former Blue Devil Dereck Lively II and star guard Kyrie Irving.
“I saw the teams just like everybody else, but I feel like it was kind of a crazy sequence of events,” Flagg said from the NBA Draft Combine. “... I was surprised like a lot of people.”
He continued, "They got a lot of really good pieces, D-Live from Duke. That’s pretty cool,” Flagg said. “I think it’ll be a really good opportunity.”

Can The Arizona State Sun Devils Steal This Talented Basketball Prospect? The Arizona State Sun Devils have the chance to make a huge impact with a recruit who is set to visit their program. There are multiple stages that a large majority of recruits like to go through before committing, including the basketball commits who like to take official visits, but unlike football sometimes they only visit a couple of programs. That doesn't seem to be the case in this recruitment, as according to 247Sports, a prospect is set to visit the Sun Devils and the Sun Devils only at this time, which could lead to a heist that many programs aren't ready to acknowledge. The prospect of discussion is one of the better players in the nation, as the prospect is Lincoln Williams. Williams is a very talented player from the state of Illinois He is rated as the best player in the state, and is one of the main guards/forwards being recruited. He has started to receive offers from all over the place, including some schools like Illinois, TCU, and of course the Sun Devils who has convinced him to take an official visit sooner rather than later. The Sun Devils are taking advantage of the cards they were dealt, as they not only have pushed for an official visit, but they have him coming on August 30th with the hopes of a quick decision considering he has yet to set any other official visits with programs officially. The Sun Devils have made the talented prospect a priority in the class, and have hopes of him being the center point of the class.

Jordan Love's thumb surgery comes at inopportune time for Packers
The Green Bay Packers have a cause for concern with Jordan Love in the preseason. The quarterback suffered a thumb injury during the Packers' 30-10 loss to the New York Jets on Saturday. Love went 1-of-5 passing for seven yards and took a sack for -3 yards in the defeat. Both of his drives ended in punts. Per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, Love is set to have surgery on his thumb after seeing how it held up at practice on Monday. General manager Brian Gutekunst believes Love will be ready for Week 1 against the Detroit Lions. "Gutekunst sounded adamant that Love will be ready for Week 1 against the Lions," Schneidman wrote. "Hit his left hand on a helmet on that half-scramble vs. Jets. Wanted to see how it felt at practice yesterday and decided to get it fixed to avoid future issues. Will be with team in Indianapolis. "Brian Gutekunst says Jordan Love is having a procedure done on his left thumb. It’s a 'ligament thing.' Hurt it in the preseason opener. Gutekunst hopes he returns to practice next week." The injury comes at an inopportune time for the Packers. Love and the majority of his receivers have not been in sync during training camp and in the preseason game. Like last season, Packers' receivers have dropped passes during practices and did so in the preseason opener against the Jets. Green Bay needs Love on the field, gaining chemistry with his pass-catching targets, including first-round pick Matthew Golden, before it plays the Lions.
Shohei Ohtani named in lawsuit regarding $240M real estate project
Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani has been named in a lawsuit that was filed in Hawaii on Friday. Ohtani and his agent, Nez Balelo, are being sued by a real estate investor and a broker in Hawaii who have accused Ohtani and Balelo of sabotaging a $240M real estate deal for a development on the Big Island. According to court documents that were obtained by Jimmy Golen of The Associated Press, real estate developer Kevin J. Hayes Sr. and real estate broker Tomoko Matsumoto say Ohtani and Balelo deliberately had them removed from the project “for no reason other than their own financial self-interest.” The lawsuit claims Ohtani was brought into the deal for his promotional value and that he and his agent pushed the founders of the project out using “threats and baseless legal claims.” “Defendants must be held accountable for their actions, not shielded by fame or behind-the-scenes agents acting with impunity,” the lawsuit states. “Plaintiffs bring this suit to expose Defendants’ misconduct and to ensure that the rules of contract, fair dealing, and accountability apply equally to all — celebrity or not.” Hayes and Matsumoto have also accused Ohtani and Balelo of trying to push them out of a similar neighboring development project. The $240M Big Island development is located along Hapuna Beach, which is rated one of the top beaches in the world. Matsumoto was supposed to be the listing agent for the properties, which average more than $17.3M each. A brochure for the project stated that Ohtani, who was called “Japan’s Babe Ruth” has committed to buying one of the 14 properties and acting as a “celebrity spokesperson” for the development. Ohtani signed a 10-year, $700M contract with the Dodgers prior to the 2024 season. The two-way star is having another monster year with a .284 average, 42 home runs, 78 RBI and a 1.013 OPS entering Tuesday. Ohtani has also returned to pitching this season and has a 2.37 ERA across 19 innings. Ohtani was also connected to a massive gambling scandal last year, though Major League Baseball determined that the 31-year-old was not guilty of any wrongdoing.
Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger Makes Direct Statement About Mason Rudolph's Spot On QB Depth Chart
The Pittsburgh Steelers have quite an interesting quarterback room for the 2025 season. Of course, all the focus is truly on Aaron Rodgers and what he can bring to the team at this stage in his career. Behind him, the Steelers have Mason Rudolph serving as the primary backup. Skylar Thompson and Will Howard are competing for the third spot on the depth chart, but unfortunately for Howard, an injury has slowed his progress. Thompson took advantage of the opportunity, performing well in the first preseason game and possibly reclaiming the QB3 role. Before his injury, Howard had previously moved ahead of Thompson in the competition. Former teammate of Rudolph, Ben Roethlisberger, recently shared his honest thoughts about the veteran quarterback’s performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Roethlisberger, who spent years with Rudolph during his time in Pittsburgh, had a unique perspective on how his former understudy handled the game. While Roethlisberger acknowledged there were some areas where Rudolph could improve, he also praised his composure, decision-making, and ability to move the offense when needed. Roethlisberger discussed Rudolph’s performance on his Footbahlin podcast, noting that the veteran looked confident and in control despite limited opportunities. "You know I thought Mason [Rudolph] played really well," Roethlisberger said on his podcast. "I thought he did exactly what you would hope to see from your backup quarterback. He went out there I think, he solidified himself… as the two." He pointed out that Rudolph’s familiarity with the Steelers’ system allows him to step in without disrupting the flow of the offense. With Rodgers leading the way, Rudolph providing a steady backup presence, and the QB3 competition between Thompson and Howard continuing, the Steelers’ quarterback depth will be a storyline worth following as the 2025 season approaches. "Let’s see how he does this week and the next week," Roethlisberger said. "I thought he played really well. I thought he was efficient with the ball. He threw the ball down the field. As a team, you like seeing that because that gives you confidence going into the season that if something were to happen one game for Aaron… you have a guy that you feel confident who could go in there. Same thing when we had Charlie Batch, you had Bruce Gradkowski, you had Byron Leftwich, you had Dennis Dixon and Josh Dobbs. Any of those guys. You just feel confident he can go in and just get it done for you." Roethlisberger had high praise for Rudolph, and hearing him mention him alongside names like Charlie Batch shows he has faith in Rudolph’s ability to be a reliable backup in Pittsburgh. There is a strong argument that Rudolph is one of the most dependable backup quarterbacks in the NFL, which is a significant asset for the Steelers in the 2025 season. Steelers' Mason Rudolph Has Great Preseason Game Versus Jaguars Rudolph only attempted 10 passes on Saturday night against the Jaguars, but completed 90 percent of them. He threw for 84 yards and one touchdown. While preseason football can be difficult to evaluate, he performed well in roughly a quarter and some change of action. His efficiency and composure reinforced the notion that the Steelers have one of the league’s most steady and trustworthy backup quarterbacks heading into the regular season. Roethlisberger is confident Rudolph has now locked up his spot as QB2 for the 2025 season. Steelers fans are now super eager to get updates on when Howard will be back from his injury.
