After weeks of speculation surrounding his future, Dan Orlovsky is reportedly set to remain with ESPN. The former NFL quarterback-turned-analyst had prompted uncertainty about a possible departure, but according to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, Orlovsky is now expected to re-sign with the network.

Amid the long discussions and meetings, Orlovsky took some time to sit down with Jimmy Traina of SI Media to discuss his new contract and an Emmy snub, among other things. Orlovsky was nominated alongside Charles Barkley, Kirk Herbstreit, Ryan Clark, and Nate Burleson for the Outstanding Personality/Studio Analyst at the 46th Sports Emmy hosted at the Jazz at Lincoln Center in NYC a few months ago. And he was furious, something he shared with Dan Patrick.

In the sit-down with SI Media, the hosts wanted to clarify whether Orlovsky was kidding or legitimately serious about his being furious about the snub. The analyst claimed that he genuinely hoped that he would win the award. He further elaborated that he assumed that he created a version that stood out among the many analysts.

Analyst, I was like, ‘Man, I really believe that I’ve had a strong run here. I really believe that I’ve separated myself.’ I take pride in that. I knew who I was going up against. Greats of the great. So, I was like, I feel very confident about Analyst. I really did.

There was another layer to Dan Orlovsky’s frustration over the loss. After the category was announced, he texted Charles Barkley, jokingly asking, “Will you stop winning?” Barkley’s reply, that it was a team effort, added fuel to the fire, irritating the former Lions’ quarterback even more.

Charles Barkley has won the Studio Analyst category five times, second-most in terms of wins behind Cris Colinworth, who has won it eight times. His co-nominees, Herbstreit has won it thrice, Burleson twice, and Clark once previously.

In addition to his nomination, he was nominated for the George Wenzel Technical Achievement Award for their StatusPro Visualizer – VR Technology used in NFL Live. Furthermore, his show was also nominated for the Best Show, something he was highly unsure of winning.

The NFL Live win was quite the shock for Dan Orlovsky

In a refreshingly candid moment, Dan Orlovsky revealed he nearly skipped the ceremony altogether. He admitted that it took a nudge from his wife for him to suit up and attend the big event in the Big Apple.

But as the night wore on, the analyst people love to hate saw his confidence dwindle further.

The VR category goes. Don’t win. Analyst category goes, don’t win. I immediately go to my wife, like a child, ‘I wanna go home. This is why I didn’t want to come.

Dan Orlovsky shared with a laugh

As more awards were handed out, his mood soured. The Best Weekly Show award went to College GameDay, and Orlovsky saw it as the final blow. Orlovsky assumed that, considering that the Best Weekly Show was the second-to-last award, there was no chance ESPN would win two awards in a row. However, shattering all of his expectations, the NFL Live pulled off a surprise win in the Best Daily Studio Show category.

The show triumphed over The Dan Patrick Show (Peacock), MLB Central and MLB Tonight (MLB Network), Good Morning Football (NFL Network), and Pardon the Interruption (ESPN).
