The Denver Broncos, who are picking 20th in the NFL Draft, have been connected to multiple running backs in the first round.
In early mock drafts, the Broncos were expected to land Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, but he has since climbed up draft boards and is expected to be a top-10 pick.
In nearly every mock draft now, the Broncos are expected to draft North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton.
During a conference call on April 18, NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah mentioned that the Broncos could stay put and draft Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson.
On April 21, Jeremiah joined Mina Kimes on her War Room Mock Draft show and mentioned that he thinks the Broncos will end up selecting Hampton with the 20th overall pick.
Jeremiah also laid out another scenario that could make things complicated for the Broncos.
"I'm fascinated to see what happens, I don't think he gets there, but Colston Loveland. The Broncos have long been connected to having a, no pun intended, love affair with Loveland, but they went out and signed Evan Engram and gave him decent money."
Before free agency, the Broncos were connected to Loveland from Michigan as well as Penn State tight end Tyler Warren. Once Denver signed Engram in free agency, those connections went away.
Back on Jan 29, Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt told 104.3 The Fan in Denver that Loveland would be a great fit for head coach Sean Payton's offense.
"I think Colston Loveland from Michigan is a really good fit for this offense because he is a purist from the tight end position rather than an artist from the tight end position," Klatt said.
"Colston Loveland is a guy that is an excellent wide receiving tight end and he blocks incredibly well. I think Colston Loveland's value is a little bit better than Warren even though Warren was the Mackey Award winner and they're (Broncos) going to have a chance to take Colston Loveland."
Not many mock drafts have Loveland getting to the Broncos with the 20th pick. In Klatt's latest mock draft, he has Loveland going 18th overall to the Seattle Seahawks.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Broncos are a team that could be making their way up the draft board.
"The Broncos have made inquiries about moving up in Round 1, according to sources. But there aren't many others. This always could change when players start falling and teams are on the clock."
If the Broncos decide that they want to wait on a running back, in a deep class, they could decide to draft the best player on their board. If that's Loveland, it means Bo Nix has another toy to throw to and make the offense even more dangerous.
