Bengals standout rookie D'Ante Smith isn't expected to play on Friday night against Washington.

The ECU product is battling Quinton Spain for the starting left guard job. Unfortunately, he missed Wednesday's practice due to dehydration. The team is playing it safe and keeping him out of Friday's contest

"That would be more of a precautionary thing," Zac Taylor said when discussing the possibility of Smith missing tonight's game. "He just had a dehydration issue. He's going to be fine."

Smith's chances of winning a starting job took a hit, but Taylor didn't rule him out completely.

"You’re not going to rule somebody out just because of something that limits them for a couple of days," Taylor said. "He’s been making good progress. By no means has he earned a starting job but he’s certainly in the mix for the competition. We want to see him to continue to be in the mix. Because the young guys that show that potential, they only get better with reps. So we’ll continue to work him into the mix. Disappointing. You’d love to see him play in the game. It’s not his fault. We’ll just react. We have plenty of practices next week and one more game to play."
