On a relatively quiet day of college football on Saturday, former ESPN "College GameDay" analyst David Pollack was surprised to see the scores of two games when flipping through the channels.
Two historic programs, No. 8 Clemson (0-1) and No. 15 Florida (1-0), each found themselves in a second-half battle against inferior opponents. Clemson, which fell in Week 1 to LSU, held a 17-16 lead against Troy at the time of Pollack making his post on X.
Down in Florida, the Gators held a one-point lead of their own against South Florida in the fourth quarter, 16-15.
"So strange to look on screen and see Clemson up 17-16 on Troy and Florida up 16-15 on USF," Pollack wrote.

DraftKings Sportsbook had Florida favored by 18.5 points and Clemson by 30.5 points.
The Gators are trying to reach the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history. Florida came into 2025 on the banks of an 8-5 season under head coach Billy Napier, which was the first winning season of his tenure.
Napier entered last season on the hot seat with one of the hardest schedules in all of college football, yet Florida finished with a winning record. However, the head coach has only one bowl win in four seasons.
The Gators come into the season with DJ Lagway at the helm. Lagway was a former five-star recruit and the top quarterback in the 2024 class.
Dabo Swinney and the Tigers reached the CFP last season, but lost 38-24 in the first round to Texas. They return Cade Klubnik and look to win Swinney's first national title since 2018. Swinney's last two national title wins have been over Alabama.
Pollack was right to be stunned, as Florida lost 18-16 to South Florida in a shocking defeat. Clemson extended its lead in the fourth quarter to 27-16.
