Jake Paul successfully transitioned from a content creator to one of the biggest draws in boxing. He sells, but his career inside the ring has been mainly against retired mixed martial artists and boxers well past their primes.
It started with bouts against fellow YouTuber "AnEsonGib" and former NBA player Nate Robinson and ushered in a new business model. People tuned in to see the spectacle, a lot of people.
Paul then fought several retired MMA fighters including former champions. He holds two boxing wins over former UFC welterweight titleholder Tyron Woodley and a win over former middleweight great Anderson Silva.
In November 2024, Paul faced former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. The 58 year-old Tyson showed his age in a one-sided decisoin loss. Paul then took on former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. winning via unanimous decision over the once great boxer.
Paul's next fight will be an exhibition bout against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta "Tank" Davis on Nov. 14 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
Outspoken fighter Dillon Danis thinks Paul, who competes at 200 pounds, taking on a 130-pound titleholder is a 'joke.'
"It's a joke," Danis told The Stomping Ground. "He's a 125-pounder. He wants to be world champion. It's the same thing as Mike Tyson. They're going to have a light spar and then at the end they're going to shake hands, and whatever."
"It's ruining it (boxing)," continued Danis before taking credit for Paul's combat sports rise. "At the end of the day, when he loses to someone, you know, when he starts losing, it's going to be about, 'Oh, he was a YouTuber who tricked the world into making millions in money."
"There's no Jake Paul without me," Danis proclaimed. "This whole thing started with me."
