Robert F. Kennedy Jr. gets compliments on his physique all the time, but it’s extra special when it’s the President of the United States doing the praising.

The US Secretary of Health and Human Services recently met with President Donald Trump on May 5 at the White House, and it seemed like he managed to impress him.

During the press conference, Kennedy received a genuine compliment on his fitness from Donald Trump, who referred to him informally as “Bobby”.

“You ever see a picture of Bobby working out? You gotta be kidding me. He’s in great shape,” the President said.

Trump made the comment when Kennedy, along with several other members of the administration, athletes, and fellow citizens, were present at the White House. They had been invited to witness the President sign a memorandum to reinstate the Presidential Fitness test award.

Other attendees included school children, golfer Bryson DeChambeau, former hockey star TJ Oshie, and Todd Golden.

According to the President, “It is indeed a beautiful day to celebrate America’s athletic traditions and champions − physical fitness, and all those things I work so hard at on a personal basis.”

This initiative is part of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement spearheaded by Kennedy himself. The movement aims to tackle the risk of chronic childhood diseases like obesity and type 2 diabetes, and aims to fix issues that health agencies like the FDA and CDC have been unable to.

The movement includes changing school nutrition guidelines, banning food marketing, improving soil health, and including functional medicine via Medicare (MAHA ELEVATE). It also includes administering the Presidential Fitness Test.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth chose 161 school places at military installations, and it’s the responsibility of those schools to administer this test.

The test was first introduced in the 50s, when the government assessed schoolchildren through physical activities like sit-ups and a 1-mile run, awarding students who scored above the 85th percentile.

In 2012, former U.S President Barack Obama replaced it with a new program aimed at improving students’ long-term health.

A physically fit leader spearheading such a campaign seems fair. But how does the 72-year-old manage to stay fit and healthy at his age?

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Training and Diet Routine

Kennedy’s fitness routine is a mix of strength training and cardio. In 2024, during an interview with Marathon Handbook, he discussed the specifics of his fitness regime.

“I hike every day in the morning. I go to a meeting first thing in the morning—a 12-step meeting, and then I hike, and I hike uphill. I hike a mile and a half up and a mile and a half down with my dogs, and then I do my meditations,” Kennedy stated.

His gym sessions last for 35 minutes, with each day dedicated to one part of the body. When it comes to his diet, he follows an intermittent fasting routine where he has his first meal of the day at noon.

Kennedy eats his next meal by six or seven in the evening, and then starts fasting again.
