Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green recently called the 2025 No. 1 overall pick, Duke star Cooper Flagg,  “lucky” on the air. Here’s why Green, 35, commented on Flagg, 18, and the Dallas Mavericks in recent days.

Draymond Green Calls Cooper Flagg “Lucky”

Draymond Green thinks Flagg should be counting his blessings that he landed in Dallas. Green proceeded to call Flagg “lucky” in a recent episode of the Draymond Green Show.” Green said in his eponymous show, “I don’t think he could have asked for anything better as the number one pick … You ain’t gotta go average 25 points on a bad team or 20 points on a bad team.

“You get to go compete and learn from some of the best, you know, so I think that’s great. A lot of times, when you’re the number one pick, you go to a s—– organization. This time, it’s going to a great organization.”

Green’s Point Of View

Draymond Green’s point of view is fair enough. Green wasn’t a No. 1 pick, but the No. 53 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. Green has been playing for the Golden State Warriors since 2012. Green’s aware of No. 1 picks usually going to NBA teams who have been struggling and don’t have many building blocks.

The Dallas Mavericks officially introduced Flagg in Dallas on Friday afternoon. The Mavericks are an NBA team ready to compete for championships. The Mavericks’ roster already contains several stars, such as Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, Naji Marshall, PJ Washington, Dereck Lively II, and Daniel Gafford.

Final Thoughts

Draymond Green can be described as a man of many words. However, Green has a valid point in his recent statement about Cooper Flagg and the Dallas Mavericks.

Flagg said in his introductory press conference that it was a “blessing” to be able to learn from future Hall of Famers on an NBA team ready to win now. Flagg’s family reportedly wasn’t sure how he’d handle being on a losing team, as he’s won everywhere he’s been. The Mavericks’ previous season had some question marks, but the Mavericks should manage to compete for a playoff spot next season.
