The return of EA Sports College Football 25 proved a massive success for the company.

Following an 11-year hiatus, EA Sports revived the beloved video game series earlier this year. Released in July, College Football 25 features the name, image, and likeness of players for the first time.

According to Circana data shared by ‪Mat Piscatella, EA Sports College Football 25 was the year's top-selling video game through November. It beat out Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and Madden NFL 25 was the next-highest sports game at No. 6.

Furthermore, College Football 25 set another major milestone. In October, it surpassed Madden NFL 07 to become the highest-selling football video game ever. According to Piscatella, the game has since eclipsed NBA 2K21 to set the all-time sports benchmark in terms of dollars sold.

Piscatella said College Football 25 ranks among the top 50 best-selling games of all time.

Football fans were clearly eager for the game's long-awaited return. Gamers dived back into the highly popular Dynasty and Road to Glory modes while building an Ultimate Team in a format familiar to Madden players.

College Football 25 set the sports sales record after a few months on the market. That's despite the game only being made available on two "next-gen" devices (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S).

IGN graded the game a 7 out of 10, praising the gameplay but noting room for improvement in the off-field modes that "are waiting for a rebuild next season. But some players were far more enamored with the finished product.

Matt Bowen of Extra Points called it "an absolute love letter to college football fans" that had a distinct feel from the Madden franchise.

Given this sales record, it seems safe to say fans won't have to wait another decade for a new version of EA Sports College Football.
