East Notes: Bulls, Coby White, Hornets, Magic, Trevelin Queen

Bulls

It appears Coby White has won the Bulls’ starting point guard job, but knows he has to play well to keep it.

“I haven’t done nothing yet,” White said, via K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago. “If I am the starting point guard, I have to keep growing obviously. I want to be a leader of this team. Being vocal, controlling the team, getting teammates in spots where they like the ball and picking my times to be aggressive and get to the paint and force kickouts and just continue to create. I feel like the main thing for me coming into training camp was expanding on my leadership role.”

  • Meanwhile, Patrick Williams is slated to start at power forward. “I think Patrick continues to evolve. He has played well,” coach Billy Donovan said. “I think you also look at a fact of bringing Jevon, (Alex Caruso) and (Torrey Craig), there’s a good defensive mentality and energy there.”

Hornets

Magic

The Magic are converting the contract of guard Trevelin Queen to a two-way contract, per Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel.

Queen, 26, has appeared in a total of 17 games with the Rockets and Pacers over his first two NBA seasons. He had been on an Exhibit 10 training camp deal with Orlando.

The G League MVP in 2021-22, Queen averaged 22.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in 24 regular season games last season.
