ECHL: Greensboro Gargoyles Name Scott Burt Head Coach

The Greensboro Coliseum has had plenty of legendary coaches walk its halls, and hopefully, after all is said and done, the Gargoyles will have just added one to the list. Earlier today, the Gargoyles announced that they have hired Scott Burt to lead the franchise in their inaugural season. The new coach of the Gargoyles brings ample coaching experience going all the way back to his time as an assistant coach with the Alaska Aces in he 2011 season. The 48-year-old Canadian was most recently wearing two hats in Rapid City, performing duties as both Head Coach and General Manager. In his time running the show in Rapid City, he racked up 130 wins over four years and made the Division Finals in his first season behind the bench.

Prior to coaching in the ECHL, Head Coach Scott Burt had a lengthy playing career. Scott played 13 seasons in the ECHL and had 356 career points with 149 career goals. In Burt’s 13 seasons, he played in 586 games, spending time with the Toledo Storm, Wheeling Nailers, Idaho Steelheads, Utah Grizzlies, and the Alaska Aces. Burt will also be bringing some championship experience to “Tournament Town,” having won the Kelly Cup three times in his career. The new coach won two Kelly Cups with Idaho in 2004 and 2007, as well as with Alaska in 2011, where he was the captain.

With Scott Burt behind the bench for the Gargoyles, fans can rest easy knowing they have a seasoned coach leading the franchise. The Gargoyles appear to be competing in the ECHL’s North Division next season, vying for a playoff spot with Reading, Trois-Rivieres, Maine, Worcester, Norfolk, Adirondack, and Wheeling. Fans in Greensboro will hope to see the Gargoyles make the playoffs in their first season, and Scott Burt will be the man they look to. The Gargoyles will begin their inaugural season on October 18th, where they will look to beat Jacksonville and get the new head coach his first win with the franchise.
