ESPN will not televise the next FIFA Women's World Cup in 2027.
According to John Ourand, TV bids have been submitted for the 2027 and 2031 World Cups but ESPN has not submitted any. FOX and NBC are the two networks that have submitted bids to televise both World Cups.
It makes total sense for FOX to televise the Women's World Cup since it has had the rights since 2015. It has broadcast both the men's and women's World Cups during that time.
FOX has also done coverage with the EUROs along with this summer's Copa America so it makes sense for the network to keep being the biggest go-to for Americans with soccer.
ESPN televised the 2010 and 2014 World Cups but has not wanted to dip its toes back into it yet.
The United States didn't win the Women's World Cup in 2023 but got back to the top in 2024 by winning gold in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Emma Hayes got the USWNT back to playing an attacking style and it worked.
The USWNT will be a big favorite heading into that event in a little less than three years. The 2027 Women's World Cup will take place in Brazil, so that will be good for people in the United States since there's not much of a time difference.
Meanwhile, the United States will get to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the men. Canada and Mexico are also co-hosting the event.
