ESPN's SportsCenter is about as old as the network itself and has been the flagship show of the Worldwide Leader in Sports for decades. Amid ongoing shakeups at the network, SportsCenter has an interesting future ahead of it.

On Thursday, ESPN announced the introduction of "SC+" - a Disney+ exclusive show built around highlighting the top stories and moments in the world of sports.

"The fast-paced update will highlight each day’s top sports moments, stories, insights and exclusive commentary in a more concise and streamlined format," ESPN said in a statement.

"SC+ will be built around the highly popular “SC Top 10” daily countdown of sports moments. The program will deliver the most important sports news stories of the day, complemented by insights from ESPN’s top insiders and reporters.

"SC+ is the latest extension of the iconic multiplatform SportsCenter brand that debuted with ESPN’s original network launch on September 7, 1979, and has been trusted by sports fans for over 45 years."

ESPN senior vice president Mike Foss called the new SC+ show "a fresh approach" that will expand the reach of the show to their Disney+ audience.

“It’s an absolute honor to take one of ESPN’s most-prestigious and historic brands in SportsCenter and infuse it with the energy and creativity afforded by Disney+,” Foss said. “SC+ endeavors to tell the best stories in sports daily in an unforgettable way. This fresh approach, combined with the expansive reach of Disney+, will resonate whether you are an ardent sports fan or looking for something new after your latest series binge.”

Disney+ president Alisa Bowen said she's looking forward to bringing the daily access of ESPN and SportsCenter onto Disney+.

“ESPN has long defined excellence in sports programming, and now Disney+ subscribers will have daily access to the most exciting sports news, moments, and stories,” Bowen said.

SportsCenter was part of the network's official launch in 1979 and has had over 60,000 episodes over its lifetime. The list of sportscasters who have been a part of SportsCenter through the years is a who's-who of all-time greats in the industry, including the late-greats Stuart Scott, John Clayton and Greg Gumbel.
