The 2025 NFL Draft is right around the corner and the New Orleans Saints hold a top-10 pick for the first time in over 15 years. It would seem like the Saints are in prime position to draft a quarterback, but ESPN's new NFL Draft Predictor doesn't think either of the top-two QB prospects will be available at pick nine.
Cam Ward is likely coming off the board with the first overall pick, we all know that. What nobody really knows is when Colorado QB, Shedeur Sanders, will be selected. There have been rumors that the Saints are very interested in Sanders, but will he be available when they come on the clock?
ESPN doesn't think so.
According to ESPN's Draft Predictor, Sanders has around a 25% chance to still be available when the Saints get on the clock. Jordan Reid and Mel Kiper, two of ESPN's top draft analysts, currently have Sanders coming off the board at picks two and three respectively, which is why his odds of reaching pick nine are so low. They also give the Saints just an 8% chance of selecting him with the ninth pick.
ESPN also gives Sanders about a 50% chance to get outside of the top-five picks. They either expect him to be selected by one of those top-five teams or expect someone to trade up to grab him once Cam Ward comes off the board.
If the Saints truly believe Sanders is their quarterback of the future, it appears they'll make to make a move to go get him. They could possibly have to move as high as pick two, as it seems the Cleveland Browns could be interested in him after they "swung and missed" on Deshaun Watson a couple seasons ago.
This is just a machine putting out numbers and anything could happen between now and draft day, but with every passing day, it appears less and less likely that the Saints can stick-and-pick Shedeur Sanders at nine. If they think he's their guy, they're going to have to go get him.
