It turns out the rumors aren’t true: Euphoria season 3 isn’t cancelled. It’s just delayed. And now, following an update, that’s not all we know.
An article on Variety attributed to an insider source reveals a bunch of previously unknown - and at this point, unverifiable - details about HBO’s hit teen drama, including its potential timeline, cast, and story.
Apparently, filming on the show won’t start until 2025 at the earliest. It will also likely will be six episodes. We don’t know what the narrative in those episodes will be, but the source says HBO rejected two ideas: one in which Rue is a private detective, another where she’s a surrogate mother.
There’s also, allegedly, a five-year time jump. “Sources tell Variety that Levinson, who exerts full creative control over the show, writing and directing every episode, proposed his vision for the season in winter 2023, featuring a time jump five years into the future for the former students of East Highland High School.” That would make sense, considering much of the cast is now in their late twenties.
But is Euphoria season 3 the last we’ll see of them? It seems that way, with the cast “all truly committed to seeing Euphoria — with Levinson — through to the end with a third season, particularly Zendaya, Sweeney and Elordi.”
It’s worth mentioning this is all unofficial, off-the-record rumor and speculation. HBO declined to comment on Variety’s article, only stating a few days prior “HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season. In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”
While Euphoria season 3’s future is uncertain as HBO delays filming, it definitely seems to be on the right track.
