Ireland is a place known for many wonderful things. The scenery is one of a kind, with its green landscapes, which is why it’s called the Emerald Isle. While the sights can take your breath away, you can also find some wonderful food and drinks there.
Whether you are chowing down some Irish Stew or Shepard’s Pie or simply enjoying a fresh pint of Guinness, there is no shortage of great options in there.
As great as all these things are, Ireland is also home to the first Big 12 game of the 2025 season.
But it’s not just any game, it’s Farmageddon. One of the best rivalries in the Big 12 is taking over across the pond, nearly 4,000 miles away. This is far better than your typical run-of-the-mill first game.
Instead of playing a group of six team or an FCS school, we get to see two top 25 teams go head-to-head. And on top of all that, it’s a conference game, which makes it that much sweeter.
Here we have two teams that are considered Big 12 title contenders. It wouldn’t shock me if either one of these teams or even both ended up in Arlington this year. Plus, the quarterback matchup between Rocco Becht and Avery Johnson could steal any headline in the country.
It’s not often that the Big 12 gets to kick the season off, but to do it with this game in front of a national audience is something that fans of this conference can only dream of. We don’t have to wait for the SEC, ACC, or the Big Ten because it will be time for the conference we all love to get the spotlight.
From everything I have seen online, the city of Dublin is filled with Cardinal and Purple. Pubs will be full, the drinks will be flowing, and the streets will be lined with starved college football fans waiting for kickoff.
This great rivalry doesn’t slow down for anyone or anything. Whether it’s in Ames, Manhattan, Dublin, or anywhere in between, these two fan bases will travel just about anywhere to watch their team. And you don’t have to wear cardinal or purple to realize that.
It’s an absolute shame that this thing will be coming to an end after next season. It was a big mistake that the Big 12 made by not making this a protected game.
Forget about being one of the best rivalries in the Big 12; Farmageddon is one of the best rivalries in college football, period. And we should be doing all that we can to keep this great game alive.
