Florida Gators Starting Quarterback Returning In 2024
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

While the rest of the college football world deals with players leaving, the Florida Gators are going to have a key player back in 2024. Quarterback Graham Mertz announced that he will be returning to the program in 2024.

Florida Gators QB Graham Mertz Returning To School

Mertz came over from Wisconsin last season and had his best season yet. He set career highs across the board throwing for 2,903 yards, 20 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. Unfortunately, Mertz fractured his collarbone against Missouri and will miss the rest of the season. Their record wasn’t anything stellar but the impact of having the continuity of Mertz under center cannot be understated. In a college football landscape of player movement, an advantage might be gained by having some continuity.

Can The Gators Compete In The SEC?

The SEC is always difficult to come out of especially with Georgia and Alabama always lurking. Still, Florida has one of the best home environments in the nation and no shortage of talent themselves. With the quarterback position set for next year, they can now focus on filling the rest of the holes on their roster. This cannot be said for many teams as a plethora of quarterbacks have entered the portal this week with more likely to come.

The Florida Gators have to be happy that Graham Mertz will be back. Hopefully he can recover from his injury and build up the success he had in 2023.
