Former LA Rams Defender Ndamukong Suh Announces Retirement From NFL

The Los Angeles Rams had one season with Ndamukong Suh in 2018, in which they reached the Super Bowl but lost to the New England Patriots 13-3.

On Saturday, Suh announced his retirement from the NFL after a 13-year career. The news was posted on his X account, with a touching tribute to one of his biggest fans, his father, who passed away exactly one year ago.

Suh accounted for 59 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, and four TFLs in 2018 with the Rams, playing in 16 games that season. He played in every regular season game that year, but missed the playoffs due to injury.

"After 13 seasons in the National Football League, I'm officially retiring from the game of football," Suh said. "This decision has been years in the making. But today, July 12 carries a deeper meaning. One year ago, I said goodbye to my father. He was my first coach, my greatest teacher, and the man who shaped not just my mindset, but my mission. Before he passed, he asked me to step away from the game. ...Today I'm honoring that wish."

The Detroit Lions drafted Suh in the 2010 NFL Draft after he spent his college career with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He also played for the Miami Dolphins (2015-17), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2019-21) and most recently, the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022.

It has been an interesting offseason for the Rams, who said goodbye to star receiver Cooper Kupp in free agency and signed Devante Adams as a replacement. The team also restructured Mathew Stafford's contract and later signed free agent offensive lineman David Quessenberry to protect the quarterback.

Another big talking point in the offseason was the league's vote to ban or not ban the "Tush Push" that the Eagles have used in goal-line situations. The Rams were one of the 22 teams that voted against the play, but more teams ultimately favored keeping it.

The Rams face the Houston Texans in their season opener on September 7.
