After some troubling vibes early on in the 2026 recruiting cycle at wide receiver, assistant coach Mike Brown and the Notre Dame staff recovered beautifully. They now hold commitments from Kaydon Finley, Brayden Robinson, Bubba Frazier, Dylan Faison, and Devin Fitzgerald, a heck of a five-man class.
One of the more interesting recruiting targets that once looked likely to land with the Fighting Irish, or at least trending that way, was Rosharon (Texas) Iowa Colony wide receiver Jayden Warren. Notre Dame offered Warren back on April 21st, and quickly set up an official visit to South Bend. The optimism was high.
Quite simply, Notre Dame got on Warren way too late. They weren’t able to make up for lost time quickly enough.
Over the weekend, Warren made his commitment to the Houston Cougars. The Lone Star speedster opted for Houston over SMU and TCU.

It’s a massive get for Houston, who doesn’t often gain commitments to this caliber of speed and playmaking ability at wide receiver. Luckily for Notre Dame, they recovered tremendously. Warren was once viewed as potentially a huge loss, but he’s hardly a player Fighting Irish fans even think about due to their 2026 wide receiver finish.
Warren has been one of the biggest risers in the 2026 wide receiver class since the end of his junior campaign. He now ranks as a consensus four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the Rivals ranking, Warren currently sits as the No. 115 overall player, No. 17 wide receiver, and No. 16 player in the state of Texas for the 2026 recruiting class.
Most recruiting platforms see the Texas speedster very similarly as well. On the 247Sports Composite ranking, they have Warren pegged as the No. 135 overall player and No. 19 wide receiver in the class. Warren also currently sits as the No. 20 player in the state of Texas, arguably the best hotbed for talent historically.
Warren had seen his offer list continue to expand this offseason, and it was up over 30 offers. Some of the top schools who had offered him include the Fighting Irish, Alabama, Oklahoma, Miami, Texas A&M, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, SMU, Kansas State, Illinois, TCU, Baylor, Pittsburgh, Oregon State, Kansas, Maryland, Texas Tech, Wisconsin, Arizona, Houston, and Stanford among others.
A late bloomer, Warren just showed glimpses into his overall talent during the 2024 season. The 6-1.5, 195-pound pass catcher managed to haul in 26 receptions for 613 yards and 14 touchdowns, an average of 23.6 yards per reception.
While Warren is far from a finished product on the football field, there are a lot of tools to work with there. The biggest one is speed, which he has an argument as the more explosive player in the entire 2026 class. A notable track and field sprinter, Warren has run the 100-meter dash in 10.16 seconds, an elite time. Warren also has a personal best of 21.07 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
