A former Kentucky and Ohio State running back has signed with Toledo out of the transfer portal.
Chip Trayanum committed to Toledo out of the portal for his final year of eligibility. He started his career at Arizona State and was a linebacker before moving to running back.
He spent two seasons at Arizona State (2020-21) before transferring to Ohio State for two seasons (2022-23). He then ended up at Kentucky for the 2024 season but only played in three games due to a broken hand.
Trayanum finished the 2024 season with 19 carries for 101 yards after he compiled 85 carries for 373 yards and three touchdowns for Ohio State in 2023.
His best individual season came in 2021 when he finished with 78 carries for 402 yards and six touchdowns.
Before originally committing to Arizona State, Trayanum was a four-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting class and the fifth-best recruit in his home state (Ohio), per 247Sports composite rankings. He was also the No. 293 overall recruit in the class.
He joins a Toledo program that finished the regular season with a 7-5 record and will play Pittsburgh in the GameAbove Sports Bowl on Thursday, December 26.
It's a chance for Toledo to end its season on a strong note with eight wins. Kickoff for that contest will be at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Toledo had won seven of its first 10 games before dropping its last two against Ohio and Akron. Ohio won by 17 while Akron squeaked past Toledo in overtime.
Toledo even beat Mississippi State during the regular season by 24, 41-17. While Mississippi State only won two games, it's always impressive for a non-Power Four team to beat an SEC team on the road.
