When the 2025 NBA Draft begins tonight at the Barclays Central in the heart of New York City in Brooklyn, there’s a strong chance you’ll hear some familiar names that played for the 8-time national champion Montverde Academy Eagles. Actually, you may end up hearing just under a half dozen.

It wouldn’t be the first time, either, that four from the same high school institution have been selected together in the opening round of the NBA Draft.

According to a press release by Montverde Academy, four members of the Eagles’ 2023-2024 national championship team are being projected to be selected in the first round of tonight’s NBA Draft. The four players that the release mentions are Cooper Flagg (Duke), Liam McNeeley (UConn), Asa Newell (Georgia) and Derik Queen (Maryland).

“As we look ahead to the 2025 NBA Draft, all of us at Montverde Academy are filled with pride and excitement for Cooper, Derik, Asa, and Liam. These four incredible young men have not only reached the doorstep of their basketball dreams but have also left a lasting legacy on our campus—highlighted by their unforgettable run to the 2024 National Championship,” Montverde Academy Head of School Jon Hopman said via the release. “We are grateful for the memories they gave us, and we’ll be cheering them on with the entire Montverde Academy family on June 25th.”

The foursome was a force in helping lead the Eagles to a 34-0 record and winning a national crown at the Chipotle Nationals back in the 2023-2024 campaign. Flagg is being projected as tonight’s No. 1 pick, which is held by the Dallas Mavericks.

If all four players are selected together in the first round, it would be only the second time in draft history that has ever happened. The last time four teammates from the same high school/academy were selected together was back in the 2020 NBA Draft when Cade Cunningham, Scottie Barnes, Moses Moody, and Day’Ron Sharpe all were chosen in the first round.
