Francis Ngannou believes that Tyson Fury will get the victory when he faces Anthony Joshua later this year.
It was announced on Monday that Fury and Joshua will finally fight later this year after years of build-up, once the latter makes it through a tune-up fight in Riyadh this summer. They have been rivals for well over a decade, but aside from a sparring session in their younger days have never met in the ring.
There are few people who have had the chance to compete with the latest versions of both Fury and Joshua. But former UFC and PFL heavyweight champion Ngannou stepped in with both within a year, going the distance and dropping Fury before being knocked out quickly by AJ.
In a recent interview with The Schmo, Francis Ngannou was asked for his prediction on the upcoming Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua fight. He has shared 12 rounds with the pair collectively, and felt both men’s power first hand.
He seems to think that even though he performed much better against Fury, the Manchester native will be too skilful for Joshua who knocked him out within two rounds. He also noted that the undoing of Fury in their razor-close fight was likely due to the unorthodox nature of his MMA training.
“If I have to favor somebody it’s going to be very slight,” Ngannou said. “I will go for Fury, because he is very slick. He does well with professional boxing, he only doesn’t understand [how to deal with an opponent] when it’s not a pro boxer.”
Fury would have been favored for years between the pair, but it seems to be fairly even between the two as they compete long after both of their primes.
