Georgia Tech football just got a whole lot taller and a whole lot faster.
On Monday afternoon, the Yellow Jackets scored a major recruiting win by securing a commitment from 6-foot-4 wide receiver Darnell Collins, one of the top two-way athletes in the state of Georgia. The 2026 standout from Rome (Ga.) High pledged to the Jackets shortly after his teammate, fellow Rome star Jeremy “JJ” Winston, also committed.
For head coach Brent Key and offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner, this is a big one.
Collins, a 3-star recruit by Rivals (5.7 rating) and ranked as the No. 74 player in Georgia for the 2026 class, had drawn significant Power 4 attention. He held more than 20 offers and had official visits lined up with Kentucky, NC State, and Indiana. Instead, The Flats won him over.
Collins brings exactly what Tech has targeted in recent recruiting cycles, big-bodied, athletic playmakers. At 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds, he’s a natural red-zone threat with sticky hands and the ability to win 50/50 balls. He’s not just a receiver either, Collins plays both sides of the ball, excelling as a physical safety with strong instincts. On3 ranks him as the No. 47 safety in the country.
Last season, Collins made waves for Rome with highlight-reel catches and bone-jarring tackles. As the Wolves gear up for a 5A title run, he and Winston form one of the most dangerous tandems in the state.
With Collins and Winston on board, Tech now has seven commits in the 2026 class, four on defense, three on offense, and momentum is building. This class is shaping up to be one of Georgia Tech’s most balanced and physically imposing groups in years.
Tech fans, circle this one. Collins isn’t just a commitment. He’s a future difference-maker.
