Jonathan Kuminga’s contract situation with the Golden State Warriors remains unresolved.

The young forward rejected a two-year, $45 million offer and appears to prefer the $7.9 million qualifying offer for next season.

The Warriors reportedly expect to ‘cave’ during negotiations because they don’t want to lose Jonathan Kuminga for nothing.

Phoenix and Sacramento have made offers, but none contained sufficient value to convince the Golden State Warriors to trade their promising forward.

NBA insider reveals Warriors’ interest in Pelicans’ Trey Murphy III

NBA insider Jake Fischer recently disclosed Golden State’s primary trade target if they successfully re-sign Kuminga.

The Warriors have shown strong interest in New Orleans Pelicans small forward Trey Murphy III.

Fischer reported that Golden State has already contacted New Orleans regarding Murphy’s availability.

“Sources say that the Warriors have a strong affinity for Murphy and have made outreach to New Orleans as recently as this summer,” Fischer wrote.

“Yet sources say that the Pelicans, to be clear, have batted away calls for the 25-year-old, valuing him highly. The two-way forward will be playing on a contract in 2025-26, at precisely $25 million, as desirable talent.”

Murphy’s elite shooting would address Warriors’ spacing needs

Murphy represents an intriguing talent whose production has improved each season since entering the NBA in 2021.

Last season, Murphy averaged 21.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game while contributing 1.1 steals defensively.

His most attractive attribute for Golden State is his three-point shooting consistency.

Murphy has never shot below 36% from deep throughout his entire career, providing the reliability Golden State values.

Last season, Murphy attempted 8.3 three-pointers per game at a 36.1% success rate.

This volume and efficiency combination would complement Golden State’s offensive system perfectly.

However, the Warriors must first resolve Kuminga’s contract situation before pursuing any additional moves.

Once Kuminga’s situation gets resolved, Golden State can finalize signings of players currently waiting on the sidelines before making any serious pursuit of Murphy from New Orleans.
