The Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs are interested in trading for New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
However, the Pelicans are not interested in trading Murphy III.
“Sources say that the Warriors have a strong affinity for Trey Murphy III and have made outreach to New Orleans as recently as this summer,” Fischer wrote. “Yet sources say that the Pelicans, to be clear, have batted away calls for the 25-year-old, valuing him highly. The two-way forward will be playing on a contract in 2025-26 — at precisely $25 million — as desirable as his talent. Another team known to have registered trade interest in Murphy, sources say, is San Antonio.”
Murphy III appeared in 53 games for the Pelica ns last season. He averaged 21.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.7 blocks while shooting 45.4% from the field, 36.1% from beyond the arc and 88.7% from the free-throw line.
The Pelicans signed Murphy III to a four-year, $112 million extension last year. Murphy III will make $25 million next season. He has career averages of 13.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.5 blocks in the NBA.
Golden State hasn’t made any moves this offseason due to Jonathan Kuminga‘s restricted free agency. Meanwhile, San Antonio has signed Luke Kornet, Micah Potter and Lindy Waters III and traded for Kelly Olynyk.
The Pelicans have been busy this offseason. They traded CJ McCollum to the Washington Wizards for Jordan Poole and Saddiq Bey and signed Trey Alexander, Kevon Looney, Bryce McGowens and Jaden Springer.
New Orleans and San Antonio missed the 2025 playoffs, while Golden State lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Semifinals in five games.
