The Green Bay Packers made a major splash in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft. For the first time since 2002, the team took a wide receiver.
Matthew Golden, the standout wide receiver from the Texas Longhorns, is the newest first-round pick for the Packers. He will add much-needed playmaking at the position for Jordan Love and Matt LaFleur to utilize.
Originally, it was thought the Golden would be wearing the No. 81 jersey to begin his career in Green Bay. Now, a new announcement has been made.
As shared by Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, the Packers have announced that Golden will wear the No. 22 jersey instead of No. 81.

ESPN currently has Golden listed as the No. 3 wide receiver on Green Bay's depth chart. There is a good chance he will have a role right off the bat with the Packers.
During the 2024 college football season with the Longhorns, Golden showed off No. 1 wide receiver potential. He racked up 58 receptions for 987 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging an impressive 17.0 yards per reception.
Not only did Green Bay add one key weapon for Love and the offense, they doubled down in the third round by bringing in TCU standout Savion Williams as well.
Brian Gutekunst and the Packers have been much more aggressive offensively this year than they have been in years past. Golden is receiving a lot of hype already and now fans can buy his No. 22 jersey number to gear up for the 2025 NFL season.
