When he got up, Haney was hurt badly, and Garcia hit Haney on a break, which forced the referee to take a point away from Garcia.

The eighth round saw both fighters catching their breath and taking the round off. Haney was slightly busier than Garcia. During most of the ninth round, Garcia had his back turned, and towards the end of the round, Garcia landed a four-punch combination that buzzed Haney.

A crushing left hook sent Haney crashing down for the second knockdown of the fight in the tenth round. After some slow moments, Garcia landed another left hook that had Haney hurt badly again but survived the round. Garcia landed a big left hook that sent Haney down for the third time in the fight in the 11th round. Garcia tried to finish Haney, but he made it through the round.
