The LSU Tigers are back at the top of the college baseball world, a place the blue blood program knows very well.  The Tigers topped Coastal Carolina 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at Charles Schwab Field to win the championship series 2-0 and claim their second national championship in the last three years.

Speaking of being on top, the Empire State Building in New York City gave a big shoutout to the LSU Tigers for winning the school's eighth national championship.  The iconic skyscraper lit up purple and gold, and the structure's Twitter/X account gave a shoutout to the Bayou Bengals.

"Shining in purple and gold tonight in celebration of the @LSUbaseball's College World Series Championship", the facility's account wrote on Monday night.

The Tigers had a dominating postseason run after earning the #6 seed in the NCAA Tournament.  They went 3-1 in the Baton Rouge regional, defeating a pesky Little Rock team to reach the Super Regionals.  There, they swept West Virginia 2-0 with lopsided 16-9 and 12-5 wins to make it to Omaha.

There, LSU was simply perfect, as the Tigers rolled through the competition with a perfect 5-0 mark.  A 4-1 win over Arkansas followed by a 9-5 win over UCLA put the Tigers in the catbird seat.  Then, down 5-3 to Arkansas in the ninth, they rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to walk off and eliminate the Hogs 6-5 and reach the championship series.

LSU edged Coastal Carolina in game one 1-0 on the strength of Kade Anderson's 3-hit, 10-strikeout complete game shutout. They then closed the door the following day 5-3 after posting a four-run fourth inning and holding on down the stretch.

College baseball isn't quite as big in the Northeast as it is in the South, but now, there's no doubt that those in the Big Apple know who's back on top of college baseball in 2025.
