Indiana Football 2026 Schedule: Full Breakdown and Season Outlook

That was great, Indiana. Now do it again.

Can the Hoosiers pull off another amazing run? That's what's expected now, but the 2026 football schedule has enough dangerous landmines to make it difficult.

Remember, last year's team didn't play Ohio State until the Big Ten Championship. It missed Michigan, USC, and ... Indiana would've beaten them last year. Who does it get this year?

Breaking Down Indiana's 2026 Football Schedule

The Good

The non-conference schedule is a joke, but it allows the Hoosiers to use the first three weeks as true tune-up games to get everything together.

Starting the Big Ten season with Northwestern and Rutgers isn't bad, and yeah, going to Nebraska isn't horrible, either.

Three of the last four games are in Bloomington, but ...

The Bad

It's no longer just about going to a bowl game or even getting to the College Football Playoff. Losing any game will be a big deal now, and losing three would be catastrophic.

At Nebraska, Ohio State, at Michigan. That's a tough three-game stretch - mainly because of the trip to Lincoln before the two big games - and no, Minnesota, USC, and at Washington aren't breathers.

What Big Ten Teams Indiana Will Miss

Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan State, Oregon, Penn State, UCLA, Wisconsin.

The Hoosiers miss four Big Ten teams that didn't go to a bowl game last season, but not playing Iowa, Oregon, and Penn State - the three teams that gave them a real game in the regular season last year - helps.

Indiana’s Best and Worst Case Scenarios in 2026

Best Case: The Hoosiers take a punch

There's no problem with the embarrassing non-conference schedule to get up to speed, and getting by Northwestern and Rutgers is no big deal.

After beating Nebraska, the top three Hoosiers will be bowl eligible before the schedule kicks in hard.

At this point, the Hoosiers are supposed to win everything, but they're on the wrong side of either the Ohio State game or the trip to Michigan - and that's it.

They win everything else, play for the Big Ten Championship, and it's business as usual.

Worst Case: This isn't 2025

Remember, the Hoosiers had fights with Oregon, Penn State, and Iowa on the way to the Big Ten Championship fight with Ohio State - they didn't destroy everyone.

This year, they're on the wrong side of back-to-back losses to Ohio State and Michigan, and then comes the big problem - USC is terrific.

Indiana is still really, really good, but it loses three games and is out of the College Football Playoff mix.

Games That Will Decide Indiana’s Season

1. Ohio State, Oct. 17
Is this the biggest home game in Indiana history? It'll be right up there when the loaded Buckeyes come into town.

2. at Michigan, Oct. 24
All of the attention will be on the Ohio State game, but the Michigan game is dangerous, too, considering it's the third road game in four weeks.

3. USC, Nov. 14
Indiana will have to get used to receiving everyone's best shot, and that includes a program like USC. This will be the moment when the Trojans try to show that they're a major player again.
