The Indianapolis Colts have begun to trim their roster down from 90 to 53 before the deadline on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The team finished its preseason with a dominant win over the Bengals, 41-14, on Saturday. With how well the third and fourth string players played, it will make it very hard to trim the roster down. Some of the players that have already been cut or waived are very interesting. Let’s dive into who the team has already let go.
The Colts have begun trimming their roster. The first player was Defensive Tackle Devonta Davis, who was an undrafted rookie. Davis saw action in all three preseason games, totaling 54 snaps on defense. Pro Football Focus credited him with three stops, a forced offensive failure, and one QB pressure.
The next player was quite a surprise in Cornerback Alex Johnson. He was having a great training camp and preseason. In the first game against the Ravens, Johnson intercepted the ball on the team’s first defensive possession. He was seeing so many reps with JuJu Brent, Jaylon Jones, and rookie Justin Walley being injured. The team went the veteran route and signed Xavien Howard, who spent his first two seasons with Defensive Coordinator Lou Anarumo.
Two more players were also released. Linebackers Joseph Vaughn and Solomon DeShields. The team still has plenty of work to do between now and Tuesday. Here are a couple of players I feel will be cut soon, like QB Jason Bean and RB Khalil Herbert. Some of you may think I am crazy saying Herbert, but he has had too many injury problems this summer.
The Colts have had a great summer building this roster up with talent. There were plenty of roster battles. Let’s hope the team makes the right choice on who to keep on the roster. Stay tuned to Total Apex Sports for all the latest roster news.
