Penn State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson was asked about Tyler Kasak’s status.
Kasak, ranked No. 1 at 157-pound weight class, went into concussion protocol during his bout with Maryland’s Ethan Miller and had to injury default.
Penn State wants Kasak back as soon as possible, not just for the team, but for Kasak individually.
If healthy, Kasak has as good a chance as anybody of winning a national title.

Here’s what Sanderson said about Kasak in his post-dual meet presser.
“We’re not entirely sure yet,” he said. “Obviously we have a long time before the conference (tournament) and whatever, but he should be good to go. He’s a tough dude… if he’s falling down like that and he’s hurting, he’s hurting, obviously.”
So it sounds like, at worst, Kasak will be ready for the Big Ten Championships, which are scheduled for March 8-9 in Evanston, Illinois.

Unfortunately, Kasak has been banged up multiple times over the past nine days. Against Iowa Jan. 31, he got cut, which led to one of the most iconic images in Penn State wrestling history.

Against Michigan a week later, he went into concussion protocol again but was able to finish and win the match.

But this time, he wasn’t able to continue.
Kasak’s health will certainly be worth monitoring.
No. Penn State takes on Ohio State Friday, Feb. 14 in Columbus. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
