One of the brightest stars in the Big 12 Conference has won a national award for his performance in the 2024-25 season.
Iowa State guard Curtis Jones established himself as one of the best scorers in the country this year, averaging some ridiculous stats off the bench. College Hoops Today took notice of Jones and awarded him the title of National Sixth Man of the Year.
“Jones is essentially a sixth starter for the Cyclones, and his presence off the bench is one of the primary reasons why the Cyclones have a chance to advance to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season,” CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein wrote. “A microwave scorer with good size at 6-4, Jones is a high-level offensive player who can also rebound his position. He’s had 16 games this season with at least five rebounds and is also Iowa State’s leading scorer (17.0 points).”
The 6-foot-4 senior from Minneapolis, Minnesota, is having the best season of his career to date in 2024-25, averaging a team-high 17 points per game alongside 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
His presence has been a massive reason for Iowa State’s success, with the team sitting at No. 10 in the nation. The group finished 23-8 in the regular season and now sets its sights on defending their Big 12 Tournament Championship win from the previous season in Kansas City on Wednesday, March 12th.
