This past summer, Tottenham Hotspur had improving its backline atop its to-do list. The north London-based club expressed interest in various targets, one of them was Villarreal CF central defender Pau Torres.

In an interview with Spanish media outlet AS, Torres opened up about the offer from Tottenham over the summer transfer window. Although the idea of playing in the Premier League is enticing to any player, Torres stated in the interview that it was an easy decision to reject the offer.

The 24-year-old elaborated that he only had one decision in mind: to continue with The Yellow Submarine as they compete in the UEFA Champions League this season.

“I am informed of Tottenham’s interest, but I have always been clear about what I wanted to continue at Villarreal. My idea was to live an exciting season, I was very clear about what I wanted and that was to stay at home and at Villarreal. Therefore, it was a quick decision,” Torres said.

Tottenham would head to another player on their list as The Lilywhites would land Cristian Romero from Atalanta. Romero wouldn’t be the only defender coming to the English side as in the final hours; they would pull off a deal for FC Barcelona’s Emerson Royal.
