With new leadership and a new quarterback in Geno Smith coming to town, the Las Vegas Raiders knew upgrading the receiving corps was necessary.
Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers provide a strong foundation, but the lack of depth behind them and third-year receiver Tre Tucker was cause for concern. Fortunately, th Raiders rectified the problem in the 2025 NFL Draft, bringing a total of three receivers into the fold over the three-day event. Jack Bech, Dont’e Thornton Jr., and quarterback-turned-receiver Tommy Mellott are all currently projected to make the 53-man roster this season, all of whom carry different expectations for their rookie seasons.
For Bech, that means starting right away, giving him the chance to put up strong numbers early in his career.
On a recent episode of The Ross Tucker Football Podcast, NFL analyst Greg Cosell drew a comparison between the Raiders’ second-round pick and Los Angeles Rams star receiver Puka Nacua.
“I came away watching this kid, thinking that there were similarities to Puka Nacua, stylistically, ” Cosell said.
“People have to remember, it’s easy now to say ‘Oh, you’re not Puka Nacua.’ But, you know, Nacua was a fifth-round pick. Again, it’s the way he’s deployed in the Rams’ offense. They don’t ask Nacua to line up at boundary X and win one-on-one on the outside. They don’t ask him to do that. That’s not what he is. I thought Bech was somewhat similar stylistically to Nacua when I finished watching his tape.”

While comparing Bech to one of the top receivers in the NFL sounds far-fetched, he and Nacua do have some similarities in their paths to the NFL.
In his final two seasons at TCU, Bech caught 74 passes for 1,180 yards and nine touchdowns; Nacua’s two years at BYU saw him grab 91 receptions for 1,430 yards and 11 touchdowns. Those numbers are not different enough to outright deny the plausibility of the comparison, especially given both share similar tools in their repertoire. Of course, NFL fans know how Nacua started his career like a house on fire, being named as a second-team All-Pro in his rookie year in 2023.
While it would be unfair to make that the benchmark for Bech’s rookie season, coming anywhere close to Nacua early on would accelerate the Raiders’ rise back to competitiveness.
