The Jacksonville Jaguars had been rumored to make a big splash in the NFL Draft. They certainly made one. Hours before the draft, rumors circulated that the Jaguars were trying to move up to No. 2 and the Cleveland Browns were open for business. After a massive trade on draft night, the Jaguars took Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter.

Jacksonville Jaguars Take Travis Hunter With the 2nd Overall Pick

Travis Hunter has been making waves in college football for the last two years. His two-way ability is something we have not seen in a long time. It wasn’t just that he played both sides of the ball, but he was elite on both sides of the ball. On offense, he caught a conference-leading 96 passes for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns. As a cornerback, Hunter had 36 total tackles, 11 passes defended, four interceptions, and one forced fumble.

His elite play on both sides of the ball earned him the Heisman Trophy and a slew of other awards. He will now bring his talents to the Jacksonville Jaguars. While he is entering primarily as a defensive back, the former Colorado Buffalo has been clear that he expects to play both sides of the ball in the NFL. For the Jaguars, they get an elite corner who has wide receiver abilities. He could be used in a variety of packages, and is also a name that puts butts in seats.

Final Thoughts

This is a solid pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars, but they had to give up a ton for it. Not only did they have to give up their second-round pick, but they also had to give up their 2026 first-round pick. They are banking on Hunter being the difference maker on defense with Brian Thomas Jr. on offense. Will Hunter be able to dominate both sides of the ball? Did the Jaguars make the right move to give up the farm for him? Only time will tell.
