Jets Rookie Happy With 'Clean' Performance In Preseason Finale

The New York Jets' preseason games under Aaron Glenn are over, with attention now shifting to the roster cuts that will see many dreams end in brutal fashion.

For Jets rookie Arian Smith, he has had a steady offseason, and in New York's three games, has had his moments, totaling a combined four receptions for 57 yards in his first two games, before having a 10-yard rush against the Philadelphia Eagles in the third and final preseason outing.

But what was his biggest takeaway from the 19-17 loss to the Eagles?

"I probably say just me playing clean," Smith said. "Doing everything I was supposed to do when I was out there, whether it was me blocking. I was trying to be more detailed than the first two preseason games because I was probably a little sloppier, I felt like, but I feel like this game was a little more clean."

With roster cuts looming, we imagine that Smith has done enough to escape the cull and to be a member of Glenn's team.

Given the players ahead of him on the depth chart at the receiver position, Smith might see offensive snaps hard to come by in Year 1, but he isn't phased; he wants to help any way he can.

"I probably say have an open mindset," Smith said. "I feel like I'm open to doing anything they want me to do. So just keeping that mindset and that mentality, I feel like it'll help me get where I want to be."

The preseason is officially done, and with roster cuts upon us, Smith is set to embark on his first NFL season with the hopes of helping Tanner Engstrand's offense in any way, with his open mindset being key to achieving his NFL dreams.
