The Buffalo Bills will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their third and final preseason game before roster cuts, and Sean McDermott and his coaching staff have some decisions to make.
One such roster battle that has taken a lot of the attention, which, for some, is a little odd, is the backup quarterback role.
Mitch Trubisky and Mike White are the two who will be duking it out, and through two preseason games , neither has done enough to pull away from the other in the race to back up Josh Allen.
Which brings us to the Buccaneers outing on Saturday.
This will be the last chance for White and Trubisky to show the coaching staff it should be them who should be QB2, and each will want to put on a good showing.
For offensive coordinator Joe Brady, several roster battles, including quarterback, will get sorted after Tampa Bay.
"Yeah, the competition at a lot of the positions like we're rolling with this all the way through the game,” Brady said. “I think that's a good thing. We try to give as many reps as practices and split everything evenly, wide receiver, quarterback. So, I think that those are all things that'll take care of itself after this game.”
It is likely that Trubisky and White will each get a half to strut their stuff, in what looms as a final audition, and it is hoped that either one will do enough for the coaching staff to make an easy decision.
If not, then we imagine that talks will go long into the night as the roster cutdowns approach quickly.
We often talk about how valuable preseason games are for players on the roster bubble, but they're equally important for those looking to climb the depth chart.
Will it be Trubisky or White? Time to find out.
