In an announcement made by head coach Cedric Kauffmann, senior Joshua Lapadat has been named the third captain of the Kentucky men’s tennis team. Lapadat will join Taha Baadi and Tate Sandman as captains for the upcoming 2024 spring season, which is set to kick off with a doubleheader against NKU and EKU on January 15.

Lapadat has proven himself to be a consistent winner during his time at Kentucky. He boasts an impressive 64-12 singles record in dual matches, as well as a 36-23 doubles record. The London, Ontario native was even named the 2023 SEC Tournament MVP after helping Kentucky secure their second conference tournament title in program history last year. In addition to this accolade, Lapadat was also honored as a First-Team All-SEC selection, building on his Second Team recognition from the 2022 season.

Associate head coach Matthew Gordon acknowledged Lapadat’s growth and achievements, stating, “Over the past three and a half years, Josh has grown tremendously. His record on the court speaks for itself and, on top of this, his professionalism off the court is second to none. His experience and leadership will be very important this year and we are delighted to have him as captain.”

Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity, Lapadat emphasized the significance of the captainship, saying, “I believe the captainship is very important for a team to be successful. I have been fortunate enough to have great captains the last three years here at UK and I have always looked up to the captains that I’ve had. The fact that I now have the opportunity to be in that position means a lot to me. I can’t wait to represent the blue and white this spring!”
