Journalism has won the 150th Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore to claim the second race in the Triple Crown series. It was an exciting finish as the horse came from behind at the very end to gallop across the finish for the victory.

Journalism closed trailed behind Gosger before closing in down the stretch. Gosger finished the race in second place, and you can view the spectacular finish below.

The marked the second Preakness win for trainer Michael McCarthy and the first in a Triple Crown race for jockey Umberto Rispoli. He shared his emotions in the moments after the race.

“I still can’t realize what this horse did today,” Rispoli told NBC. “He makes himself keep going. It’s all about him. It’s a pleasure and a privilege to ride a horse like him. …It’s just unbelievable. I won one of the legs of the Triple Crown and I’m crying like a kid.”

Journalism also finished second in the Kentucky Derby and entered with the second-best odds to win the Preakness at 6/5. Goal Oriented entered as the favorite to win the race with 7/1 odds and finished in fourth place.

Sovereignity won the Kentucky Derby to claim the first race of the Triple Crown Series but did not race in the Preakness on Saturday. It is the second time in four years the Derby winner did not take part.

The 2025 Preakness Stakes marks the final time that the race will be held at Pimlico Race Course before taking a two-year hiatus at a different location for renovations. The race will then return to Pumlico in 2027.

More on the Preakness Stakes

Known for the party on the infield, the Preakness Stakes is the party race of the Triple Crown. A wildly different setup than the Kentucky Derby, it brings its own type of charm as a unique horse racing atmosphere in history.

The state of the track often determines which horse can claim an advantage, based on their past experience on each surface. The forecast shows sun in the area, setting up good track conditions in the heat.

With so much data available on each horse, jockey and trainer coming into the race and the element of randomness too, many people take other paths to choosing their best bet. Whether you pick the Triple Crown contender or best storyline, there is no wrong approach coming into the Preakness Stakes.
