Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack met with the media following Friday’s spring practice. Wommack made an intriguing comment regarding defensive end LT Overton.

“LT (Overton) is one of the best on-body rushers I have seen,” Wommack said, “He does a really good job when he’s on-body to take those little twists and moves and hand placement and foot work and all that stuff.”

Overton transferred to Alabama last offseason from Texas A&M. The Tuscaloosa native had a promising junior season with the Crimson Tide. He finished the season with 42 tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. His sack total could have certainly been higher. Overton applied a lot of pressure on opposing quarterbacks during the 2024 season.

Wommack emphasized the importance of helping Overton generate more pressure and record more sacks during his senior season.

“Well, I think I’ve got to do some things to help him out, right,” Wommack said, “If we can get indicators that there is a pass, all of our calls have a mentality that when we recognize pass…We might run a pattern or a blitz where we step on the toes of the guard and then work in to the A gap or widen yourself out as a pass rusher. Just those little nuance pieces, we’re going to try to work those things. Give them a chance to go cut it lose off the edge.”

Overton elected to return to Tuscaloosa for his senior season and said he made the decision himself. It seems like the right move for Overton as he has an opportunity to continue to develop, learn, and improve his draft stock during the 2025 season.
