Kansas City Chiefs' biggest question mark on offense answered the bell in preseason finale vs. Bears

The Chiefs' offense needed to get into a rhythm before Week 1 of the regular season, and it did just that on Friday night.

Kansas City's starters scored on all three of the possessions they played in during its preseason finale against the Chicago Bears, which resulted in two touchdowns and one field goal. It started up front with an impressive performance by the offensive line.

Leading the way was a player who had the most to prove — Kingsley Suamataia. The Chiefs have committed to Suamataia as their new left guard after trading All-Pro Joe Thuney during the offseason. Not only are those big shoes to fill, but many have been concerned if Suamataia would be able to make the transition after a rough rookie season as left tackle.

Suamataia struggled in K.C.'s first two preseason games, particularly in pass protection. However, he answered the bell on Friday, leading all Chiefs' offensive linemen in Pro Football Focus' preliminary pass blocking grades (H/T Jesse Newell).

After the game, Suamataia told reporters he knows what he has to do when quarterback Patrick Mahomes is trying to create some magic.

"You got to keep playing until the whistle blows, he (Mahomes) gon' make some stuff happen," Suamataia said (H/T 810 WHB).

If this a preview of things to come, K.C.'s offense is heading for a resurgence in 2025. Rookie Josh Simmons looks like a home run at LT, and the right side of the offensive line is set with veterans Creed Humphrey, Trey Smith, and Jawaan Taylor.

Suamataia will obviously have his struggles at times, but he's already showing growth at guard. His blend of size and athleticism is really beginning to shine through, and he should only continue to improve as he plays more snaps. The Chiefs' offensive line is as young and talented as it has been since Mahomes' early days as the starting QB.
