Kansas State QB followed Patrick Mahomes’ lead in the most unexpected way

Kansas City Chiefs fans are likely familiar with the name Avery Johnson, as he's the starting quarterback for the Kansas State Wildcats who play just two and a half hours from Arrowhead Stadium. Johnson has been in Manhattan, Kansas since 2023 but took over as the Wildcats' starting quarterback a year ago.

Why are we talking about Johnson on a Chiefs site, you ask? Well, Johnson recently spoke about a unique way that Mahomes inspired him. it wasn't even anything Mahomes does on the field either. No, it turns out that Mahomes' inspiration to Johnson was the bed he sleeps in.

The K-State signal-caller revealed that he invested in a Sleep Number mattress and said it was "easily the best thing I’ve bought.” The reason he did it is because Mahomes owns the same mattress.

“The reason I got it is because it’s the same bed Patrick Mahomes uses,” Johnson said. “The bed I was sleeping in, it was a hand-me-down that caved in the middle. I was getting really bad back pain. You spend a third of your day in the bed. That’s what I needed to get better recovery and better sleep at night. It’s paid off so far. And I got it on sale.”

Well, if the numbers early on in the college football season are any indicator, the purchase looks to be paying off for Johnson who played well against the Iowa State Cyclones in Dublin last weekend. While Johnson's Wildcats ultimately lost the game, he had a great game, completing 21-of-30 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 21 yards and another score with his legs.

We already have seen Mahomes' relationship with Nebraska Cornhuskers quarterback Dylan Raiola and now it's cool to see him influencing another young college quarterback, albeit not in the same most would expect. Hey, it appears that taking advice from Mahomes whether it's for stuff on the field or off the field is a smart choice! He's changing lives one mattress at a time.
