Losing a dog is never easy, and ESPN “College GameDay” host Kirk Herbstreit recently experienced that. His 10-year-old Golden Retriever, Ben, passed away after a battle with cancer.
Ben wasn’t just a dog; he was Herbstreit’s trusted travel buddy, joining him on the road while calling college football games and broadcasting "College GameDay." With all these public appearances, fans loved Ben. Some schools even gave him his own credentials, making him an honorary part of the “GameDay” crew.
Herbstreit has three other Golden Retreievers. One of them, Peter, has even joined Herbstreit on a few campus visits for “College GameDay" since Ben's passing.
On Wednesday morning, Herbstreit shared a video on X of his three dogs out for a walk. One fan replied to the post with an idea: “Can we get these three together on the GameDay set? Give them their own segment.”
Herbstreit was all for it.
“Love that idea," he replied.

While Herbstreit is on board for this idea, it’s unclear if it will actually happen. This Saturday, he and the ‘College GameDay’ crew will be in College Station for Week 14, gearing up for the showdown between No. 3 Texas and No. 20 Texas A&M.
Maybe ESPN will make it happen then, but fans will have to wait and see. The show will kick off at 9 a.m. ET.
